Final Task: Research Pink Panther

http://ishare.rediff.com/video/entertainment/the-pink-panther-2-part-1/628662

This is the link for the Pink Panther 2 opening scene which is a detective comedy.

I have found it was released in 2009, directed by Harald Zwart and had prodcution companies that are

-Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer(MGM)
-Columbria Pictures
-Robert Simonds Productions
The film grossed $35,922,978 domestically and $39,948,054 in foreign countries totaling $75,871,032 worldwide.

This clip is is different to the perception the audience will usually have of a detective drama in that it is in a comic way. However this may cause a disadvnatage such as that it decreases the vermisiltude and represenataion of reality. This opening scene is very specfic in that it immediatelty makes the audience know what the film is about. The use of the titles and credits after the part where the audience starts to know what the film is about is a very good way of keeping the audience interested in the film and wanting to look further. Also the titles and the cartoon shots make the film have a different aspect to the film and seem more unique to the same type of genre.
In the title the use of sound in terms of the Pink Panther theme, also in the film srings are used throughout. These emphasise a certain idea or thing and the audience would have to be familar with this throughout the film. The use of the theme music in the titles makes the audience understand what sort of genre it is in that it shows some ambient sound to show a certain thing. The music is very mysterious and quite slow, it also connotates the titles in how the Pink Panther is moving and the sort of things they do.
The audience in this may then be antisipated to be for a young age as they see a comedy side of a detective genre, this may be because they feel the audience will understand the idea of crime better and it will be more clear, however this may reduce the versiltmude in the real world.
In the beginning the use of various locations is very good in that it gives titles to show these, this means it is took in various locations. In the film the way various items have been stolen in the world makes the audience thing of how someone could have done all of them and makes it sound mysterious. The music shows a sense of qucikness the way it gets louder to each item being shown to be stolen. At the end the music because very high pitched and finally ends suggesting to the audience that something has been acomplished in this case the items being stolen.
In the first dialogue between the two people the perception of detectives is lacking vermislude in that the detectives think very highly of themselves and it also shows  a lot of competition between them. This is shown in a comic way in that he starts to bash his head againist the wall because he did not get the moment he was waiting for. It then represents the extends a detective will go to in this case lieing and bribery.
Then the detective refers to Closeau where there audience does not understand who this person is except that he is the best detective in the world-From this the audience start to imagine this inspector as a serious, boring and hard working person however they immediately know of the person when the next scene appears and then it is the final straw to showing it is a comedy detective film. The inspector is interprutated as very determined, accurate but not ina serious manner and this is what the keeps the audience interested. This was  big risk for them to take have the audience thinking one thing where they want to not watch it but then showing another side and this attracts them too.
From this clip I have found that using a comedy in this genre is a big risk and is very hard to achieve. I have decided that from this film I can take ideas such as the use of stealing and getting a inspector to investigate. This film was very succesfull because of the comedy of it however it is very hard to avhive.

Final Task: Research

In order to get into the level 4 mark band we need to include a detailled research and planning of our genre and feature film. For this we need to analysis at least 5 oprning scenes of other films which fit our genre. Doing this will also give use a look at how this type of genre needs to be represented in order to be succesful.

For each opening scene we need to look at are the codes and convections, representation, camera work, genera content such as features. Also we need to look at ways of linking to the genre and the target audience in order to be helpful when it comes to planning the opening scene.

Final Task: Genre

We have decided to do a detective/crime feature film. This means the opening scene will be a mysterious and and buillt up tension. Hopefully this will grip the audience and they will be in suspense. We are going to start the opening scene where there is a sense of tension building from the start. Doing this means the audience will stay interested. Movies with a sense of emergency and crimnal based features have insprided us to chose this genre.
Next we are you going to research into this genre to help with planing. Doing this will also give use ideas and inspriation into what we want in our opening scene. Our main target audience is teenagers and young adluts. This is because this sort of genre is ususually aimed at them as it is more versilmutude.
Firstly I have researched into the genre and found that detective can be a mysterious sort of film and also include crime. There can also be  a comedy side to film involving this genre, however we will use the more serious side as a comedy detective film may be hard to create as the context will have to be very accurate. In a detective film I found that it has to be a very dark film and the result of the mysteriousiness is the suspense the auidience feels as they wait for something or someone to be revealed.
We haave thought about having a girl commiting sucide which will be very dramatic for a opening sequence and will make the audience want to know what happend and as to why she has done this.

Final Task: Opening Scene of Feature Film

In this task I am working with Beth and Nat which is the final task that we will be examined on.We have to prodcue a two minute opening scene of a feature film. We need to include titles, range of shots and edits, any continuity features, mise-en-scene, genre specfic features and appropriate sound and lighting. We must demonstrate excellance and creative use of steadiness of shots , varitety of shots and distances, shooting with apprioprate material, selecting mise-en-scene, editing appropritaely, acuurate use of sound and titles.
For myself I need to produce at least 3 blog entries a week and cover research and planning and the final blog entires for the evalaution.
During the holiday I am going to think of the content within our opening scene maybe starting to construt a stroyboard, rough production schedule and script.

Task 4: Final Contiunity clip and Evaluation

The clip we have prodcued includes all the continuity features such as the 180 degree rule, action match and shot/reverse shot. The video challenges and relates to real media products as it has a lot of vermisiltude in that the process looks real and this attracts the audience. This sort of video may be attract all different age groups and genders as it is not spefic. The video and comments made showed that the storyline is good and the chracters had its advantages and disadvantages. I have learned in order to get a story and video a good and detailed plan is needed and so this will help me acheive the best i can in my final project.
I have taken to comments from my peers who have evaluated this video to add to my final project.

The clip would not upload however this is the link to it on Mr Earls blog.

Task 4: Editing

Today we started our editing which we already had all our shots on the media server. We had to upload the shots on to  Adobe Premier. From this we had to decide which clip was the right one. This was done easily as I had done a logging sheet as we were shooting. We then had to cut the shots fromt eh parts we didnt need. Firstly for all the shots we cut 3 seconds from the start and end as we had left a certain amount of time in between each shot. This made it easier so we did not here dialogue that was not needed in the actual shot. Next we put all the clip togther, this was done very easily as we had the right shots and all the cuts to the shots had been made. We decided to insert a cross dissolve to show the difference between our flashback and the rest of the shot. This would mean the auidence can see it is a change in time and this will be clear. We then noticed some continuity at the end which we resolved by fading the image as it was the end of the clip. This worked so we did not need to re-shoot again.

Task 4: Shooting

We have completed the shooting and we also filled in a logging sheet as we went along.  This helps us note which shot was right and what camera number it is so it is easier and quicker to edit. Here it is:

Task 4: Shooting

This is our 3rd and final day of shooting. This day was all about making sure we had enough footage as you can never have enough. We also shot our last scene. I had to shoot some things at my house and so I also did this. This is the call sheet for this day.

Overall we have completed the task of shooting by the deadline and are now ready to edit out shots.

Task 4: Shooting

This is the day 2 shooting which went very well. However we noticed on one the volume was to low and so we had to re-shoot but it did not take long. This is the call sheet for this day.

Task 4: Shooting

The Shooting of Day 1 went very well to start with. When we were shooting we decide to rehearse a bit before so we got it right in one go. We also left 5 seconds before scene and afterr so this would be useful fro ediiting later. This is the call sheet of day 1 and what we have shot. While shooting this day we realised in the at the end there was some continuity within the shoot which is where we would have to shoot it again.

Task 4: Plan

Over the half term I thought of an idea to produce a very detailed plan as this will get better marks and make the shoot easier to produce. I came up with producing a shooting schedule and call sheets for each day. This would make it much easier to shoot quickly as we only has limited time. It also meant we could find out of locations were free for us to shoot in. I also came up with adding a logging sheet for each day so we knew which shots were the right ones and this would make it easier to edit. This is the Script and Shooting Schedule:

This means we are all ready for shoot and have a well orgainsed plan

Task 4: Storyboard

I have completed a story board with lots of detail of the scenes. There is detail on what type of shots, movement, rough timing of shot, special effects needed and the dialogue that needs to be part of the shot. Here is the storyboard I produced:

Please leave any comments on the plot!!!

Task 4: Planning

This lesson we have decide to start the planning as we have thought of our plot. As we were planning we thought of another idea to add the plot, when the woman is asked the mysterious question it then turns into a flashback where she is seen told to leave from her job. We thought this would give it a black and white scene and be a different shot of the past. For the planning we had over half term to orgainise the shoot.  We were told to include a script, storyboard and any other production planning as makes it look more professional. We were going to produce a script, storyboard and the production schedule would have many different types of sheets to orgainse the shoot. We had over half term to plan the shoot.

Task 4: Continuity Task

This task is where we have continuity features such as action match, shot/reverse shot and 180 degree rule to include in a sequence. We will only be given the following and so we will have to think of a plot for ourselves, make a script for it and also do all the planning. The clip must include:
-A character opening a dorr(Action Match)
-Crosses a room(180 degree rule)
-Sits on a chair facing another character
-exchanges dialogue(shot/reverse shot)

In order to get the highest amount of marks we need to show:
-Steadiness of shots
-Framing Shots
-Variety of shots/distances
-Shooting with appropriate material
-Mise-en-scene-colour/lighting/objects/setting
-Editing using appropriate effects
-Accurate use of sound
-Appropriate titles

The First Lesson we discussed a story line we could use. We had to think I a lot as it had to reasonable and easy to film as we had limited time and limited access to locations we would like to have.

Plot: A woman has an interview for a teaching job and is very nervous for the interview. Going into the interview will be our action match shot and 180 degree rule. The shot/reverse shot will be the interview when the woman has had a seat. The interview carries on and then a question arrises where the woman seems unsure what to say. Then she is sitting in a cafe with a baby scan which gives the audience a sense of mysteriousness....

Task 3: Editing and Completed Movie

The editing caused some problems but it was a lot easier to use the software as I was used to it. The first problem we had was the some of the movie had us talking in the background and this was not needed. We  decided and found out you can put the volume of the audio down and this helped a lot. We then added a music clip which made some of talking go away and added dramatic effect to the movie.
Another problem we had is some of the movie was dark will other was lighter. We discovered that brightness can be changed and this made the movie look better. We added titles to the movie to give it a professional look. Also a problem was when the dialogue could be heard there was other voices in there too. I discovered that the certain bit can dissapper by using ripple delete. This made the movie flow better. I then rendered the movie and expoted it into a Windows Media File.

This is the complete movie

Leave any comments please!!

Task 3: Storyboard

The first part of the task is to complete a storyboard on the script. The script consists of two scene where one has no dialogue and the other consists of mainly dialogue. We also have to put details on the storyboard about which shot it is, camera angle, camera movement, dialogue and sound being used. We also had to consider where we were going to shoot these shots and this was difficult as noise and places were already taken in the school. It took us a lot of thinking to choose a spot which we could film our shoot. In the storyboard we had shot type and also needed to number the shots so it was in a orderly fashion.
The storyboard had be done because without it the shoot would not be possible and also it makes it easier in order to prodcue the shots quickly and how it is to be done.
In our storyboard the first shot is an extreme long shot as in the script it states that the figure is just visable. We then get a insight of this figure and get closer to it amd then a high angle is used when the figure comes in to the dark room. This shows a sense of power from the charcter. Also the two shot is done at a high angle of the point of view of number 2. This again shows power of the charcter and weakness of the other. It also doesnt show Number 2's face and seems mysterious. Through half of the shoot we are going to have dramatic music which has been illsutrated on the storyboard. The storyboard has also been timed and so this gives it a planned way of shooting.

Here is our completed storyboard

Task 3: Shooting Script

In this task me, Beth and Nat were giving a script which we have to complete a production between 30-90s. We had to book a camera and tripod and organise an avalible place to shoot.
This is the script we were given

Task 2: Editing Camera Movement

Next for Task 2 we had to edit all our camera movement clips like we did for types of shots. This time it was much easier to edit as we knew how to do it but it was very time consuming. Also the rendering and exporting take for ever to to do.

Here is our Camera Movement movie

Task 2: Problem

This is getting so frustrating, uploading the video is taking for ever to put up.
Found out problem diidnt render the clip lol and export.
This still takes forever

Task 2: Camera Movement

At the start of the lesson we learnt the different types of camera movement.
Our second part of our induction was to book a camera and to take the different types of camera movement.
We had to take at least 2 for each of us.
Here is our Reverse Zoom

Task 1: Editing Types of Shots

Next lesson we had to upload our clips onto the computer and start to edit them. At first it was very difficult to edit the clip as you had to cut each one and using the cursor was very hard as it was small.Eventually we worked it out and made a movie clip of all our shots. We then added titles in to say which shot was which type. We then had to render it so it was easier to preview.

Here is our movie clip of types of shots

Please leave comments. :-)

Task 1: Types of Shots

In this task me, beth and nat had to take clips of all the different shots lasting about 10 seconds each. Getting used to the camera was very easy and we quickly did our shots. The types of shots we did were high angle, low angle, meduim close up, extreme long shot, close up and many more.

Here is our extreme long shot

Edit of creating a movie plot and opening scene

Mine and Beths's  task was to come up with a pitch for a plot and genre allocated.

Genre: Romance
Person A: Gemma
Person B : Sophie
Person A has had something that person B wants. Person A has lost this thing. A and B now have to find the missing thing.

The film is set in New York in the winter as it also links into the themysterious and detective story.
Gemma has a boyfriend Max, who sophie fancys a lot. However Gemma is only going out will Max becuase she is using him as she is an undercover reporter. The audience do not know the reason in the opening scene to why this is.  Sophie finds out that Gemma is undercover reporter as she overhears her on the phone. Sophie sabotages Gemmas plans of her job and eventaully Sophie gets Max.

The Opening Scene

The opening scene starts with birds eye view of a restaurant. The landscpae of New York can be seen and the sun is setting in the distance. The weather has a beautiful elegance with it as the snow settles. The roads are all very peaceful.  It then zooms into the front where in the restaurant many people are seated and the smell of italian food whiffs out.  A woman with brown hair, avergae height, smartly dressed clothes and big grin on her face is sitting in the far left corner. She then starts to start walking, holding fsome roses, turning back and waving goodbye the man she was sitting with. The man had casual clothes on and looked very pleased with himself. The woman still smiling walks out and suddenly the weather has become aggresive and violent. She then stands in the corner and gets her phone out of her handbag. She says "It's Done"
